Join us for Variations on, a series of interviews with emerging Canadian artists that bring the works housed in the Zwig Foundation Collection into conversation with contemporary art.
Maddy Mathews is a Toronto-based artist working primarily in drawing, painting, and sculpture. Using naive materials such as pencil crayons and paper mache, her work highlights the inherent futility of representation through humour and abstraction. In our conversation, we will be discussing the work of Louis de Niverville, a renowned Canadian artist who uses collage to explore surreal spaces and ideas.
Through this program, we hope to challenge static scholarly perspectives on art, bringing in alternative points of view that can reinvigorate our understanding of Canadian and international art.
Please join us early as space for this event is limited.
